As a result of living in an area that has been hit with a major category 4  hurricane, and tropical  depressions, etc., I have asked around to different bike organizations, like a well know motorcycle insurance company, but the only reply I received was from Hap at Haps Cycle Sales in Sarasota, Florida.

I simply asked what do we do with our motorcycles incase of a severe weather watch, hurricane, etc. and here is his answer.

Dear Nancy,

If you have to leave a motorcycle out in a storm or flood conditions, it is best to choose the highest ground available, near a structure.  Try to put the structure between the wind and the bike to act as a buffer.  We do not suggest using a cover or tarp.  These items can act as a sail or in the worst case cause damage to paint by constant rubbing.  You can try to tie the bike down or tie it to a structure to make the bike more secure.

In the aftermath of a storm, if your cycle has been submerged, the bike should not be started until all fluids have been changed, all electrical parts have been thoroughly dried, battery checked, carb(s) drained and the air filter changed.  These items may be best done at your local dealer.

Remember, that trying to save your bike is not worth your life.  Plan and act as early as possible.

Good luck,
Hap

Many thanks Hap and may your business be blessed.
